perfume-bottle-usb-card-reader

Your average USB card reader is an ugly chunk of plastic and metal. This particular reader looks like a perfume bottle and that can be a benefit for you. Available single co-workers may think that you actually care about your hygiene. And in that same vein, keeping your desk free of obvious computer accessories makes you appear more approachable. Work is all about meeting others, isn’t it?

ladybird-usb

This ladybug or “Ladybird” as it were, will integrate with flash drives, SD card readers (upt to 4GB) and 5-pin data cable. It also features a UV light that can be used as a flashlight or a means of detecting counterfeit money. And the best part is that you can take her home for only $10. Careful though, I doubt she even uses protection.

datatraveler.jpg

The DataTraveler Reader from Kingston is a USB key that will also allow you to access your memory cards. When you plug it into your system, one drive shows up that allows you to access the USB key memory, and another drive gives you access to the memory card reader. The USB comes in capacities of 1 and 2 GB very soon and a 4 GB version to to follow. The Card reader accepts SD, MMC and SDHC memory cards natively.

For all the odd combinations that have been put out recently, this one seems a bit more useful than most. If you don’t have a reader built into your laptop, this will save you the space of that external card reader. The 1 Gb comes in at a very reasonable $19.99, the 2 Gb at only $34.99.

PS3 Credit Card Reader

Yesterday’s v1.50 firmware release for the PS3 may have fixed the backwards compatibility issues, but it also added a little functionality to the console that will help Sony take even more of your money.

Apparently the upgrade added support for peripheral devices that allow gamers to swipe credit cards directly into the console. Fortunately this is a Japan only release…for now. My question is how long will it be before this functionality makes its way around the globe?

Pink Prada Laptop

Prada Laptop

If you are one of the increasing number of consumers that seem to be prioritizing style over substance, (and you find anything Paris Hilton does stylish) the Pink ASUS A6F laptop may be right up your alley.

Apparently the pink dressing is actually the result of a partnership with Prada. According to CNET Asia, “Each piece of leather was handpicked and took over a year of research before the bond between the organic material and aluminum chassis was deemed fit for production.”

Like most trendy electronics, the device looks pretty, but the hardware isn’t anything to write home about. Specs include a 1.66 GHz Core Duo processor , 120 gig hard drive, 4-in-1 memory card reader and 11.12 screen.

Even if you have the $2500 price tag, don’t expect to get your hands on one of these anytime soon. Only 50 were produced and they will be made available in Singapore only.

SCH-B600 Camera Phone
Today Samsung is set to ship the SCH-B600, the world’s first 10MP camera phone.

The camera includes 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. It also has an auto focus and a flash unit that is optimal for 10MP photos. The LED autofocus feature is the first to be found on a camera phone.

The B600 has a lot to offer besides top notch picture taking quality. For instance, it also features mobile TV capability, an “Anycall Band” feature that allows users to play a “specific melody of instruments” that can be arranged to produce a song for downloading, Bluetooth, MP3 player, MMCmicro support, business card reader, and 128 polyphonic sounds.

If you’re hoping that the SCH-B600 will be released in the states, remember that like all really cool gadgets, this phone is only currently available in the East (Korea). Hopefully that will change in the near future.

BIOS

You would think backwards compatibility would be a fairly simple thing to do when you design a product from the ground up with that in mind. And that is what we were told about the PS3, it would be backwards compatible.

Now it comes out that in order to play PS2/PS1 games you will need an adapter to plug in the memory cards that hold the data from the games on the older systems. TrustedReview hits it right on the head when they say, “the 60GB edition of the PS3 has integrated memory card readers and you didn’t think to include a PS2/PSone memory card slot? After all, they’re made by you and have only been the biggest selling consoles in the last ten years”.

While this may not be the biggest obstacle they face, it is just one more poke in the eye from Sony, and to what end? Are they really so hard up for additional revenue streams? Seems like their own damn fault.
