mosquito-vacuum

The best way to combat insects is to turn one of their own kind on them. When you tilt this mosquito shaped bug vacuum down and yank on his tail you create suction that sucks the bug into the mosquito body. It also includes a clear viewing area so you can revel in its imprisonment and ignorance of impending doom.

animal-coasters

These spilled drink style coasters teach you a simple lesson about cleanliness— the filth you live in is ideal for all sorts of critters. You may not even notice a few small insects, but when you start attracting animals as large as crocodiles, ducks, frogs and turtles, it may be time to pick up a bit. talking-darth-vader-plush

This Darth Vader Plush is supposed to look soft and cuddly. I will give it the soft part, but it looks a bit more like a giant insect than a cuddly version of Vader. Still, it is a much less threatening version than an actual Vader look-alike and also features familiar dark side phrases when pressed. Ideal for anyone who loves the movies but who is scared to death of the actual antagonists.

This is a nice change from the norm. While the warmer weather is a welcome change from the cold winter we have had, it does bring out a whole slew of insects. But these particular insects are not going to land on your food, sting you or just gross you out in general. All they are going to do is to provide you with a gentle, cool breeze. Most useful insects I have come across in a while.

You love America’s dominance in the past and you love insects as well. You can’t get much more perfect of an illustration of the combination than this. Using recycled army helmets from the second world war, artist Fred Conlon captures the horrors of war in a totally unique way. And are those pliers for a mouth?

Do your best impression of Pete Townshend at the end of a Who concert and kill flies at the same time with this Guitar Fly Swatter. That really makes me wonder if that is what his aggression was directed at in the first place. Could his antics have simply been attempts at killing a slew of insects onstage?

Watch a Bug

Whoever thought this product was a great idea has obviously never taught in elementary school. Putting these on a bunch of kid’s wrists will just lead to a classroom full of crawling bugs. What else do you think a bunch of ten year olds are going to with a jailed bug on their wrist? And with their short life spans there will be a lot of cleaning out little insect corpses.

talking-bug-zapper.jpg

You don’t see many bug zappers around these days, but there was always something satisfying about the sound that it produced when frying annoying insects. The Green Talking Bug Zapper amplifies that satisfaction by adding one of 15 phrases including “that’s gonna leave a mark,” and “goodbye cruel world!” when the bugs come in contact with the grid.

Unfortunately, the audio clip available on the product website leads me to believe that this thing may actually be more annoying than the bugs themselves.

Dear Ingo

It may have twice as many legs as a spider, but you can’t deny that the “Dear Ingo” Chandelier has a distinct insect-like vibe to it.

Interestingly enough, it appears as if the Dear Ingo is made up of 16 independently moving anglepoise style lamps, which would allow the user to position the arms in a variety of ways to achieve different looks.

climbinglight.jpg

The climbing light will freak out anyone that sees it and is not expecting it to be just a light. As good a reading light as it may be, you can probably count out all Entomophobists. I would probably count most people in that group. No one would look down on someone who is afraid of an insect. We are all afraid of them and I am not afraid to say it.
