Whether or not you are a fan of BBC’s Top Gear show, a bust of a race car driver as an alarm clock with a display in the visor and the time projected as well can’t be passed over. Maybe now you can finally unmask Stig who never removes his own helmet on the show.

You can use this as a regular flashlight, but that would sort of defeat the purpose. Why just have light when you can have projected images of a clone trooper, C3PO with R2-D2 or Yoda? On the downside, it is powered by 2 AA batteries, so I wouldn’t expect a lightsaber here.

You can carry a can of pepper spray around for self-protection, but nothing is going to summon a savior like Batman for you as this Bat-Logo Projector Key Ring does. Just turn on the light and the bat symbol will be projected. And you know what happens when the bat call goes out. I know I would rather see the caped crusader coming to my immediate assistance than have to wait 15 minutes for a squad car to show up. Plus, when Batman administers some personal vengeance he doesn’t have to spend the next year in court.

You have all probably had one of those teachers that seemed oblivious to what time the class actually ends. The same goes for some meetings that can run on and on. Give them a subtle hint when you shine the time on the wall right next to them with this keyring. Or just screw around with people in any dark area, like a parking garage at night. Just do me a favor and do not bring it to the movies. Nothing annoys me more than those jerks with the laser pointers.

Coolheure Clock

There are plenty of projection clocks out there, but none have featured the unique design and versatility of the Coolheure Clock. The time can be projected onto any surface in one of four colors – green, white, orange, or red. It can also deliver four different dial designs. Plus the whole thing is pulled together in a colorful translucent box that is sure to grab some attention.

The Litholo Hologram Kit allows you to make holograms at home. The kit goes for $139 and they say you can have your first hologram made in about an hour.

leia.jpgBefore you have visions of a Leia projection from an R2D2 replica, that technology simply does not exist, as the website is clear to point out. You will also need a darkroom to work in. They don’t specify if it has to be as free of light as a regular dark room, but I would assume that the darker the better. The one other thing to be aware of is that you need to use the laser diode or included LED darkroom light in order to see the hologram. Just looking at the film plate will get you nowhere.

Optoma Bigvision

Optoma’s Bigvision HDBV3100 is a 100 inch rear projection DLP HDTV that has the unique capability of being upgradeable.

Apparently, “[a]s the technology changes or chipsets are improved, it’s a simple matter to replace them, from chips in the scaler to new chips from Texas Instruments.”

Keep in mind that, the Bigvizion sports a price tag of $30,000 – but that just may be a value when you consider the upgradeable features and the fact that comparably sized televisions will be going for over twice that (See Panasonic 103-Inch T.V.)

Features:

  • In-wall custom 100″ 1080p HDTV monitor requiring only 30″ of depth
  • Proprietary light engine with all signals displayed as 1080p native
  • Modular design for easy installation
  • Advanced connectivity with multiple HDMI, Component, S-Video, VGA and composite inputs
  • Customizable bezel to match any room décor
  • SFccc custom day and night modes
  • Easy service access through front screen assembly

Optoma / OhGizmo

NXT’s Authentic ASS-60AK is not only a video screen, but is also a speaker. The screen is made from Teonex, a fabric that is able to produce high frequency sounds that regular fabric would absorb, and uses NXT’s SoundVu Technology to turn it into a speaker. And before you worry about the vibration affecting the picture, the company says that the vibrations are undetectable to the naked eye.

With the sound coming directly from the screen, it would make an ideal center channel speaker. No word on the specifications of this thing, but if it has the range and power handling to be an adequate speaker for a reasonably sized home theater, this would be an easier solution than that used by the typical movie theater that has the center channel speaker behind a perforated screen. Either the $520 price of this screen is a steal, or the unit just doesn’t have the performance you would hope for. With NXT’s name behind it, I would think it would at least have decent sound.
