You know why fans are awesome? They do things like rescue the set of the Enterprise 1701-D bridge from Paramount when it’s on its way to the trash. It hurts me to say that the movie studio was going to chuck the entire piece from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but a Trekkie salvaged the pieces and wants to restore the entire set and make it open to the public.
The catch is that the set is in rough shape; it’s been disassembled and wasn’t the least bit taken care of. It will take cash to make it shiny again. To that effect, the person behind the rescue will be launching a Kickstarter page soon to try to raise the money to take the bridge back to its former glory. From the Facebook page:
I am in the process of completely restoring the set to it’s original splendor, and MAKE IT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC for Meetings, Movie Showings, Fund Raisers, Tours, Filming, anything!! Eventually, I will be doing a KICKSTARTER Campaign, but only after I have the estimates of restoration PLUS the support and STAR TREK ACTORS plus famous fans of the show.
Check out the photos of the rescued set pieces after the break.
Be sure to keep tabs on the restoration Facebook page to find out when the Kickstarter campaign begins.
