If you’re a millionaire looking for the ultimate in private underground living and apocalypse survival, consider this 2,000 square foot home in Saranac, N.Y. which happens to be built on top of a cold war era missile silo. Gregory Gibbons bought the property in 1991, and along with his cousin, Bruce Francisco, converted the former launch control center, comprising an additional 2,300 square feet of space, into a luxurious estate complete with dining and entertainment areas, two bedroom suites with marble bathrooms, 10-foot tall ceilings, simulated daylight and an open floor plan.
Although the 9 story silo is currently empty, Francisco suggests the space would be perfect for underground condos ” if people are worried about the end of the world”. If you’re interested, the current prices are as follows: $750,000 for the silo home, $259,000 for the log home, or $1.76 million for the whole 195-acre property and runway.
