Korehira Watanabe: A Look At One Of Japan’s Last Master Swordsmiths [Video]

Korehira Watanabe is one of only 30 master swordsmiths living in Japan. Despite the fact that no records exist to help him in his quest, he has spent the last 40 years perfecting his craft in order to recreate the Koto, a type of sword that dates back to the Heian and Kamakura periods (794-1333 AD).

Watanabe believes that he has only recently unlocked some of these secrets of the Koto, and has managed to create a few swords that match their quality.

Check out the short video after the break for a peek at Korehira Wantanabe’s life and work.
