This precious little Western Screech Owl named Zeus is completely blind. He flew into the porch wall of a house in Southern California, bonking his head pretty good. He was taken to the vet where it was discovered that he was blind. They also couldn’t help but notice that he has amazing eyes that look like they’re filled with tiny galaxies.
The effect is due to vitreous which is a jelly-like substance in eyes that clumps into strands or little lumps. They’ve resulted in stunning configurations in Zeus’s eyes, which also don’t have an iris or lens.
Since he can’t be released into the wild, he’s now a permanent resident at Wildlife Center for Learning where he sits perched on a stand by founder Paul Hahn’s desk.
