Ultrasone Edition 9s Headphones

Are there headphones out there worth a $1500 price tag? Ultrasone would like you think so.

The Edition 9s headphones are a blend of the frivolous (Ethiopian sheep leather in ear pads and headband pad) and the high end tech (frequency range 8Hz-35,000Hz), but one is left wondering whether this is all really just a bunch of BS.

First off, does any one really need Ethiopian sheep leather and how much of this makes up the overall price? Second, the audible range for the human ear is generally between 20Hz and 20,000Hz – does the increased range really make any difference?

Ultrasone also claims that the Edition 9s headphones can “reduce sound pressure to the eardrums by an astonishing 40 percent” and “electromagnetic field radiation, commonly associated with cell phone use, by up to 98%.”

I don’t consider myself a serious audiophile, so maybe I’m missing the boat here but it seems that Ultrasone is overcharging the consumer for what could be considered useless features.
