Apple today unveiled the iPod Hi-Fi. For $349, you get a single cabinet speaker system with an included iPod docks for any iPod (some require cables sold separately) and a remote control. Just plug your iPod in and use it as a stereo system. The high points of the system are the remote, the ability to charge the iPod in the dock and a built in power supply so you don’t have any external power bricks. The ability to support any iPod is a definite plus as well. You can use the system anywhere if you choose to shell out for 6 D cell batteries. All the specs are on Apple’s webpage.
Kind of a slap at current iPod accesory manufacturers, but Apple is really just another player in the accessory field, albeit with an excellent reputation among their customers. The only issue with this system is that it cannot be integrated with your stereo system. As such, I see it more as a small room system, such as a bedroom or den, rather than something that would be put in the media room with your high end stereo equipment.
