Britain Okays iPod Transmitters

transmitterBritain has finally moved into the modern times by allowing the small FM transmitters that allow many people to listen to their iPods in their cars. Until now any device that transmitted radio signals was considered a radio station, and thus was banned because of radio band licensing and royalty issues. Seems silly, but of course they could not have foreseen the future when the law was written back in 1949.

In hindsight it is easy to say they should have had some sort of power threshold written into the law. In any case I would consider a very low power radio signal more of a hobby type of thing and probably should have been allowed in any case.

The new policy takes effect on December 8th.
