There is a great article on TechDirt about music and videos being sold on USB keys. The key point in the article is not that more music should be sold this way, but the suggestion that those who legally purchase music should be given exclusive access to things like concert tickets, etc. This adds value – and customers understand value. What they don’t understand is why they cannot play their purchased music on any number of devices they choose.
Maybe this is all we need to do, come up with a new marketing plan for the RIAA so that they can stop suing all those elderly people who have no idea how to use a computer. Perhaps that was their goal in the first place, have someone else figure out how to make them money.
