Microsoft's Zune

Despite the fact that the Zune hasn’t even been released yet, it appears that Microsoft has already slashed the price.

According to Gizmodo, Microsoft intends to drop the price to $229 in response to Apple’s move to lower the 30GB iPod price to $250. This comes only a day after Wal-Mart leaked a $284 Zune pricepoint.

Furthermore, David Caulton, a contributor to the Zune project noted in his blog that “Zune won’t be undercut on price by iPod.”

I have to admit, a 30GB Zune with built in FM and 3-inch QVGA LCD video screen for $229 has me willing to re-consider my loyaly to the iPod. I suppose we will have to wait until it’s released to know if this deal is as good as it seems.
