MySpace To Sell Music

MySpace is going to tap their 100+ million user base to sell music fron unsigned bands. According to Reuter’s, there are 3 million bands that will be able to sell their music. They will be available from the bands profiles or fan pages directly.

They say the bands will be selling MP3’s without DRM, so they can be used on any player. Hopefully that will prove to the music labels that DRM does nothing but stifle their market. The bands will set the pricing for the music, along with a small MySpace surcharge. No word on what that surcharge will be. You have to think a lot of these bands will relish the exposure, and be reasonable in their pricing to try to grab some attention for their music. SnoCap, started by Shawn Fanning of Napster fame, will be managing the e-commerce service.
