Samsung K5 MP3 Player With Integrated Speakers

Samsung is making the MP3 player just a little more functional by adding speakers into its player in a slide out configuration. This allows the player the ability to listen to music with others without having to lug around a separate speaker system for your player. In addition, they have a 1.7″ touchpad OLED screen and a one button design for ease of use and ability to display images. It can be used as a typical MP3 player supporting standard ear buds. The design is reminiscent of the slider cell phone which no doubt influenced it.

General specifications for this unit are:

  • Supports MP3, WMA, WMA DRM10 and JPEG formats
  • Built in FM Tuner
  • 30 hour battery life with earbuds, 6 hours using the speakers
  • Supports consumer’s existing MP3 collection or popular subscription services such as Napster, Rhapsody, Yahoo, and Urge

Nice idea, the key will be the quality of the speakers. There is no doubt that Samsung has the technology to make a great sounding system, it is just a matter of howmuch they were willing to spend to give it this functionality. Available on September 10 for $209 (2 GB) and $259 (4 GB). Player will be black, with a pink version available later in the year.
