Sometimes you see something that you haven’t seen before and it just intrigues you. MSNBC had a column and discussed two speaker systems that use a single driver, and even more surprisingly were rated as having excellent sound.
The first of the two discussed are Omega’s Super 3 XRS system. It is a single driver speaker with a 2″ ported enclosure. You wouldn’t expect a whole lot from it, but the reviewer found them to have excellent bass and with a single driver, each acts as a perfect point source.
The second of the systems he looked at come from Cain & Cain, developer of The Abby pictured here. They are called Noogis, and are essentially a smaller version of the Abby. Coming froma furniture maker, they are pieces of work and available in many finishes. And don’t let just the good looks fool you, these are highly rated, particularly in the midrange to high range. The reviewer recommends them as perfect for surround sound speakers, and the unique looks are a plus.
Pricing for all these are: Omega 2 Super XRS - $849/pair, The Abbys - $1500/pari, Noogis - $475/pair
