iPod NanoIf you were wondering what Apple has up it’s sleeve for the next generation iPod, a recent patent filed by the company might offer up some clues.

According to the Scotsman, Apple has developed technology that will enable your iPod to recognize things like band names and song/album titles, and convert it into recognizable speech. Obviously, this will eliminate the need to look at the screen while selecting music – which would be extremely helpful for all of the motorists and joggers out there.

So far, Apple has refused to comment on the design, but text to speech recognition would be a nice feature. Now if they would only add bluetooth headset capabilites and a touchscreen they would really be on to something. With competition from Microsoft looming on the horizon, Apple is going to need to innovate in order to stay on top.
