US Music Publishers Sue AllofMP3.com For A Billion Gagillion Dollars

Well, maybe not a billion gagillion, but the figure $1.65 trillion sounds equally as made up.

Sony BMG, EMI, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group along with Arista Records and Capitol Records have filed suit in federal court seeking $150,000 for each track posted on AllofMP3.com in violation of their copyrights.

If you have been keeping up with the ongoing saga surrounding AllofMP3.com, you know that Russia recently agreed to shut down the site in an effort to get into the WTO. You may also know that AllofMP3 responded with a resounding “bite me.”

While it appears that AllofMP3 will probably continue fighting for their business, they are currently getting slammed from all sides which makes their survival unlikely. Either way, the success of the site proves that record companies need to ditch DRM and find a way to make downloading more affordable. Seriously, how much better are we off at $.99 a song compared with the overpriced CD’s sold in years past?
