Meet Jaimie Mantzel. He’s managed to build toys that are infinitely cooler than anything in my closet when I was a kid. For that matter, cooler than anything I have now. He’s built robots that walk, come with armor, and are also projectile launchers. His enthusiasm is infectious; you’ll adore him and his creations. After you’ve watched the toy in action, you can even help name it.

Yes, prepare yourselves: IDW Publishing is releasing an official Doctor Who/Star Trek: The Next Generation crossover series this May. It will feature the whole crew—the Eleventh Doctor, Captain Picard, Rory, Amy, Worf, Data, Geordi LaForge, Deanna Troi, Will Riker and more. My doctor and my captain. I’m so in.

You can bet IDW will be divulging details at the upcoming Doctor Who convention, Gallifrey One, but until then you can feast your eyes on the cover art above.

Lucasfilm Ltd., Nerdist Industries, Octagon and Machinima have teamed up to create an Olympic style torch run with lightsabers. The event, called “Course of the Force” will run from July 7-11, and stretch from Santa Monica to San Diego, finishing up in time for Comic-Con’s preview night.

Participants can purchase and run quarter-mile spots along the course before passing their lightsaber on to the next runner. Best of all is that the proceeds from the event will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.

David and Jennifer both love comic books, so when it came time to pop the question, he decided to make an elaborate graphic novel based on their relationship that concluded with the proposal. Then he threw a party with a bunch of friends and presented Jen with the book. Gary Hudston might be the man to beat in terms of nerdy proposals. He hired three professional designers and Ellen McClain, the actual voice of GLaDOS in the Portal series, to propose to his gamer girlfriend. As you’ve probably heard, the Star Tours ride at Disneyland was recently overhauled in a big way. If you missed the original ride, or are just feeling nostalgic, animator Gregory Noacco spend months putting together a CG recreation that you can view after the break in both 2D and 3D versions.

Check ‘em out while you can—just in case Lucasfilm decides to pull the plug.
