Apparently Star Trek’s redshirts have proven to be so inept that their obligatory deaths have become the focus of this card game from ThinkGeek. The goal is pretty much what you’d expect – kill all of your redshirts as quickly as possible and win:

“Just look at the mission at hand . . . and then pick the people with the worst chance of succeeding! Only when all your redshirts have been eliminated will you be a happy captain. Kill ‘em all first and you win! The Redshirts Card Game – ‘To boldly eliminate your crew like no captain has done before!’”

The game is tailored for 2-7 players with a typical game lasting 30-90 minutes. Check out an additional photo after the break.

San Francisco-based developer Massive Black has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Zombie Playground, an online, team-based action arena game that will offer “a mix of third-person shooter and action RPG featuring character progression and unlockable abilities along with weapon and clothing upgrades”. But the awesome thing is that you’ll take on the zombie horde with a group of grade school kids.

The development team for the game includes BioWare vets Jason Chan (Senior Artist), as well as Aesop Rock and Shawn Lee (Music Producers/Artists). If the team is able to meet their current $100,000 goal, they will be able to produce an alpha version of Zombie Playground with two playable characters (one ranged, one melee) using Attack the Block, Goonies, and The Walking Dead as inspiration.

Ultimately the goal is to amass $ 2 million, which will allow for the creation of the complete game, featuring a full school location, multiple classes, and additional game modes.

Most of us think our jobs are pretty cool because we get free coffee and maybe donuts on Fridays. If you work at Bethesda, you think your job is cool because there’s a life-sized reproduction of Alduin’s Wall from Skyrim just sitting there as part of the office decor. This originally was part of the displays Bethesda set up at E3 and PAX, but has a new home in their offices. Way to make the rest of us feel totally lame, Bethesda. Um, got any job openings?

A group of high school students who launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a Battlestar Galactica Viper simulator recently saw their dream realized when the completed sim was displayed at Maker Faire 2012. In addition to 360-degree motion in all directions, the simulator is equipped with three front screens, a control joystick, thrusters, and a fully working cockpit simulating those seen in real Battlestar Galactica Vipers.

If you like Star Wars and tabletop gaming you’ll be happy to hear the Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game is available for pre-order with an estimated ship date of September 2012. In this two player combat game you’ll fight with tiny and detailed X-Wings, TIE Fighters, and Y-Wings in fierce space battles.

I like pretty much everything about this game, but I especially appreciate that you can play with just two people. It seems like most games based on my favorite fandoms that I want to pick up – Battlestar Galactica and Game of Thrones to name a couple – require three or more people. I’m also a sucker for miniatures.

Artist Jed Henry took NES classics like The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man and Metroid and returned them to their Japanese roots through a series of woodblock paintings known as “Ukiyo-e”. Thankfully, the heroes retained their weapons of choice instead of resorting to the fart-wielding ass firepower depicted in some Japanese art.

There are countless themed variations of Monopoly, but this one is the best yet. Technically, The Doom That Came To Atlantic City isn’t actually a new version of the game, but a loosely based satire that has the monsters from your Lovecraftian nightmares trying to take over South Jersey.

Yeah, because if you were one of the Great Ones wouldn’t you start there, too?

The game is the work of artist Lee Moyer, designer Keith Baker, and sculptor Paul Komoda and has been a work-in-progress for 20 years that is finally going to happen thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.

There’s an entertainment center, and then there’s this. This impressive specimen of home gaming set-up belongs to a guy named Pete. He likes retro games and as you can see in the above photo, he owns a crazy/wonderful number of consoles. They are apparently modded to work with HD, too. Besides these, Pete also owns handheld gaming devices, a lot of video game paraphernalia, and a pair of comfy chairs to sit in while enjoying the games. Whew.

And no, we don’t have any idea how he keeps power and input cords straight for everything.

The language in this one makes it totally not safe for work or the kiddos, but it is the funniest thing I’ve seen all day. There’s nerd rage, and then there’s nerd complete and utter meltdown that may require medical intervention. Frances has been raging about Diablo III since way back in August of last year, but this time, I swear the guy nearly has a heart attack. In fact, has anyone checked on him lately?
