Earlier this month we were treated to the international trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and it was full of scary alien goodness. Now, we get a clip of Prometheus landing on the planet and everything seems just fine. But you know it’s not. The music is too happy. The crew is too cocky. This is all going to end with aliens stuck on people’s faces and me hiding my eyes. Trust me, when the film opens on June 8th you’re all going to be sleeping with the lights on for a month.

First time author Jack Streat is sharing his experience building LEGO weapons with a new book entitled LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World’s Most Impressive Guns. Included in the book are step by step instructions for building 1:1 LEGO replicas of a Desert Eagle handgun with working blowback action, a AKS-74U assault rifle with folding stock, a bolt-action Lee Enfield sniper rifle (a.k.a. Jungle Carbine), and a pump action SPAS combat shotgun.
Each set of instructions includes a complete parts listing, so you can find (or special order) any hard-to-find bricks. The book’s illustrated, step-by-step building instructions will be clear to anyone who’s ever played with LEGO bricks, and the biggest models will challenge and delight even the most serious builders.

Disney has come up with a great new item that attendees of its Hollywood Studios park will be excited to obtain: a custom 3 3/4-inch scale astromech droid. The Droid Factory opened yesterday inside Tatooine Traders. Besides being able to carbon-freeze yourself at Star Wars Weekends, you can also choose from piles of components to build your own version of R2-D2.
It was a natural add-on to the “build your own lightsaber” set-up the park already has. People enjoy creating a personalized toy from the universe they love. If The Droid Factory comes to Disneyland, I’ll just hand over my wallet.
