Cingular Wireless to be Phased Out

Last month, SBC announced plans to adopt the AT&T brand name after their $16 million merger. However, SBC did not announce what would happen to Cingular after the merger was complete.

Today those questions have been answered. SBC, 60% owners of Cingular, confirmed that they will be phasing out the Cingular brand in favor of AT&T.

Needless to say, this will mean a major marketing push in coming months. Perhaps the combined muscle of the two companies can help revamp AT&T’s image, therby putting it in a better position to compete against the big boys like Verizon and Sprint.
