Personally, I don’t enjoy talking on the phone. I’m a guy – that’s how it works. So, if I need to call a bunch of friends about doing something on the weekend I want to keep it as quick and simple as possible. Thats where a service like Foonz comes in handy.
Foonz is a free service that allows users to start a spur of the moment conference call from any phone. All you need to do is sign up for an account with an e-mail address, cell number, and IM screen name and you will be given a personal Foonz phone number. When you want to call a group, simply dial the number and Foonz will send Txt and IM invitations to the people you have invited. Then, your friends or co-workers can join the conversation by dialing in.
Apparently, Foonz has established agreements with phone companies that entitle them to a cut of the money you are already paying for your phone service, which is why using Foonz is completely free.
The one thing I would like to see on Foonz is the ability to import contacts from multiple sources. Currently, the service can acquire contacts from your IM account, but it would be even more useful if that list included e-mail clients. Still, it’s a pretty sweet deal if you need to make a lot of conference calls or you’re just lazy about talking on the phone.
