From CES: Netgear SKYPE Phone

in Cellphones

I’ll tell you what. I love the Skype service. And while I think the idea of a Skype enabled phone is great, there just aren’t enough WiFi access points around. What are you supposed to do when you are not in range of WiFi? I think this would work fine as a home phone replacement, but I would never use it as a cell phone replacement. It obviously comes with Skype pre-installed.

In any case, this is a cool product from Netgear. The headset solution for Skype is just not doing it for me. If I had any interest in the advanced SkypeIn and Skype Out features it would make a lot more sense as a replacement for something I currently have. Those services would allow you to receive and originate calls to the PSTN (Public Switched Telepohone Network). I give this about 2 more years and this technology will be taking off. No word yet on pricing or release date.
