Personal Hurricane KitAssemble Communications LLC of Davidson, North Carolina has launched a “Personal Hurricane Kit” that features a battery-powered Inmarsat satellite antenna and handset along with computer cables that connect to Inmarsat’s broadband Internet service.

The $4,995 price tag also buys you 400 minutes of talk time and 150MB of internet access. Additional time runs at $.99 minute and $6.50 per MB of internet access.

For those of you who are not quite paranoid enough to drop about 5 grand, there is the option of picking up standalone Iridium satellite phones for about $1500 (additional $550 for 500 minutes of talk time) or about $645 ($1.49 per minute) for a Globalstar satellite phone.
