In the largest study on the subject to date, a Danish research group has determined that there is no increased risk of tumors or leukemia in cellphone users.
The study used a group of 420,095 individuals who first began their cellphone usage between 1982 and 1995. Within the group, 14,219 cancers appeared – which is less than the 15,001 average for a population of that size.
In fact, researchers noted that smoking-related cancers were down in the study group when compared to the general population. Apparently this was attributed to the higher annual income of cellphone users and the tendency for smokers in the Danish population to be in lower income brackets.
Researchers stress that the investigation will be ongoing to make sure that the results hold true for long-time cellphone users.
