The movie theater industry is considering petitioning the FCC for permission to jam cell phones in an effort to win back customers.
Declining attendance for movies over the last three years has prompted theaters to find alternative methods to win back audiences. Apparently stopping idiots from holding phone conversations during films is one of them.
“I don’t know what’s going on with consumers that they have to talk on phones in the middle of theaters,” John Fithian, president of the National Association of Theater Owners, told the ShoWest conference in Las Vegas. “We will actually petition the Federal Communications (Commission) to remove the block” on jamming cell phones, he said.
While I believe that declining movie theater revenue is due mostly to horrible movies, the cell phone cause is certainly worthwile.
And I have the perfect device to get the job done…
