YouTube and Verizon Cellular Make a Deal

Verizon is gong to allow subscribers to their Vcast service to view YouTube videos on their cell phones. They also will offer the ability to upload videos shot with their cellphone.
Since Verizon is not planning to charge an additional fee for this new service, you can’t really pan it. But in general I see two downsides. The first is how enjoyable it would be watching videos on that small of a screen. In general I don’t think small screen viewing has really caught on yet. Maybe it never it will.
The second issue could be the explosion of lousy, cell phone videos being uploaded. I will grant that not everything on YouTube today is great, but this seems to make it too easy to upload garbage. There may be the occasional gem that will only be caught because a cell phone with video recording was handy, but there will be a lot of chaff to wade through to find it. If you ever do.
