Rumors circulating over the last few days have now been confirmed as AMD has agreed to pay $5.4 Billion to acquire ATI.
The move puts AMD, the world’s number 2 chip maker, in a prime position to make another serious charge against rival Intel for market dominance. The acquisition of ATI will instantly make AMD a leader in the PC graphics chipsets / chips and consumer semiconductor market.
This partnership should be welcome news to hardcore PC enthusiasts. AMD and ATI have long been favorites of users who value power, customization, and affordability in their components. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the perfect marriage.
