The Taipei Times is reporting (based on analyst research) that Apple is set to unveil a line of stylish, light-weight, notebooks aimed at attracting female users.
“Compared to its current bulky and older models, the upcoming Apple lineup will include 12-inch notebooks weighing in at 1.5kg as well as 14-inch models below 2kg.”
Current 12″ iBook models weigh about 2.2kg (4.9 lbs) and the 14″ models clock in at around 2.7kg (5.9lbs). Powerbooks are even heavier at 2.1kg (4.6lbs) for the 12″ and 2.5kg (5.6lbs) for the 15″ model.
Basically, it seems Apple is looking to further capitalize on the success of the iPod by applying many of its more stylish attributes to a new line of notebooks.
Keep in mind that this information is based on rumors – not concrete facts. We should know more after MacWorld gets underway in January.
