If there is one thing that would draw a huge crowd at Macworld besides the iPhone, a tablet computer running OSX would be it. So it is not surprising that Axiotron’s “Modbook” is doing just that at this year’s Macworld Expo.
Each Modbook starts life out as a MacBook Core 2 Duo, then the original display is replaced with a 13.3-inch Wacom pen enabled widescreen display encased in a chrome-plated magnesium shell. No software modification is needed because the device utilizes the built-in inkwell handwriting recognition available in OSX.
All of the other hardware specs of the Macbook are retained including the processor, integrated camera, and CD/DVD combo drive. Axiotron has even thrown in the option of a built-in GPS system.
The Modbook is slated for an April release at a base retail price of $2,279. If you pre-order it before January 31st the price drops to $2199 with the GPS upgrade thrown in as an added incentive.
