Video iPod

Analysts are speculating that the successor to Broadcom, Apple’s previous Video iPod chip provider, will be none other than gaming powerhouse NVIDIA.

Satya Chillara, a market analyst at American Technology Research Inc. commented by saying - “Based on our analysis, we believe NVIDIA is designed into the next-generation vPod socket at the expense of Broadcom,” he said. “We believe the NVIDIA chip adds 3D graphics functionality in addition to all of the existing features (such as H.264) that Broadcom supported with the existing vPod.”

Naturally, it’s time for those of us in the tech media to jump to conclusions, namely “does this mean that the new Video iPod will be able to play games?”

Answers should be coming by Q1 of 2007.
