Best Buy’s Retail Insider has revealed that all delivered Wii units must be held until December 17th with a minimum of 40 consoles guaranteed. The reasons behind the decision are as follows:
- This is the last competitive weekend for holiday shopping. Having Wii’s in stock will increase foot traffic.
- Customers shopping for other products will be more likely to pick up a Wii
- The system is more readily available than other competing gaming consoles.
However, the outlook on PS3 availability isn’t nearly as promising.
According to the Insider, “SCEA has made an announcement that no other units will be shipped in addition to the units already being manufactured. Stores that do receive small shipments are not allowed to hold the units.”
So there’s your heads up. If you are looking to get your hands on a Wii, I recommend hitting Best Buy early. I certainly will be.
