BF 2142 : Spyware Ads Standard

According to ShackNews a user who got his hands on the retail version of Battlefield 2142 noted that the box contains a leaflet indicating that the game includes monitoring software that records anonymous information, like your IP address and surfing habits. Exactly how is not discussed, but they are feeding information back to ad companies and servers to determine what in-game ads to serve you.

I have no real problem with in-game ads themselves, but this seems to cross the line in a rather blatant way. I don’t want anyone to be scanning my computer, regardless of the reason. I have no idea what EA is thinking, Do they really want to scare people off? I would think they would be looking to appease their customer base, not give them another reason to not buy their game. Maybe some will not care, but I think a large number of people will.

Seriously, it’s time that people take a stand against EA for pulling this kind of crap. That, and the fact that they have released some half-assed games recently.
