With the release of the MMO Age of Wulin on the horizon, software developer Snail Games held an online auction in which its users could bid for exclusive items including pre-paid time cards, enhancement materials and a rare mount that characters can take advantage of. While many of these items were modestly priced, one man decided that virtual weaponry was worth the price of a small car, and shelled out $16,000 for a one of a kind virtual sword and a plaque he can hang in his room.

Set in medieval China, Age of Wulin is based on the folklore surrounding martial arts and those who practice it. Players meet and interact online and perform quests which are enhanced by various interactive community functions. But when it comes to this particular sword, only one man is financially irresponsible enough to wield it.

The Chinese version of the game is expected to launch as a closed beta sometime this Spring, with a US version following sometime thereafter. Check out the trailer after the break.
