Downloader Update Breaks Battlefield 2142

EA, what are you guys doing? As if you haven’t gotten enough bad press already, now there are tons of people who are complaining of major issues after the EA Downloader is updated to the new EA Link. Not only does it erase the old downloader-er, it also seems to remove the CD Key information as well. Without that, you can’t log into the server. Some have been able to log in, but have been kicked out for duplicate CD Key a short time later. No word on the number of people affected, whether it is all or just a certain percentage of users.
Could it get worse, you might ask? Of course it does. Not only do you lose your key forcing a resintall, but the reinstall will fail unless you uninstall the original version. But the uninstall does not seem to work either. So you can spend the time downloading 2 GB of game only to have the install fail. The one solution I have seen is to restore your system to the way it was before you got the update. Not much of an answer.
All of this is pretty poor, and I cannot find much more than forum thread 1 / forum thread 2 on EA’s site going over how to fix it. For all of you that bought the game against your better judgment because of EA’s many recent blunders, I think you have learned yet again how EA treats their customers.
