When I was a senior in high school the word on the street was that 3D-Realms was working on the next installment of the Duke Nukem series. It was exciting news considering that I was playing a lot of Duke Nukem 3D at the time.
Unfortunately that was 1996 – and I’m still waiting.
An interview with 3D Realms’ George Broussard via 1UP revealed that the aptly titled ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ is currently in full production.’
Broussard: “I think it’ll be out when pigs fly. But it’s definitely going well now. Things are together; we’re in full production. We’re basically just pulling all the pieces together and making the game out of it. There’s a lot that’s finished. All the guns are finished. Most of the creatures are finished. And as I said, we’re just basically pulling it all together and trying to make it fun.”
After 10 years of development, the Duke Nukem project may finally have enough momentum to carry it through to completion.
The 3D-Realms offical Duke Nukem website writes: “And yes, we know the game has taken a long time. There’s no possible joke you could make about the game’s development time that we haven’t already heard. :)”
Oh, I bet I could think of a few…
