GTA: Unsafe Work Environment For Prostitutes

GTA: San AndreasAmusingly enough, the ‘Sex Workers Outreach Project’ (SWOP) is calling for a ban of Take Two’s controversial game ‘GTA: San Andreas’ citing that it promotes an unsafe work environment for prostitutes. (Uh…since when was being a prostitute ever safe?)

SWOP writes:

“In the interest of furthering sex worker’s human and civil rights to life and personal safety, we object to any media which represents sex workers as legitimate targets of violence, rape and murder. Censorship is a blight on the freedoms we hold dear but we wholeheartedly encourage citizens to vote with their dollars by refusing to purchase products which encourage the denigration and destruction of prostitutes.”

Again, if you are concerned about “denigration” or “destruction” you should probably steer clear of the corner market. Besides, GTA has always been an equal opportunity offender.

So why now? It’s not like this is anything new. Bit-tech points out that this has been going a feature in the series for nearly 6 years. In fact, a little reworking of a quote from Bit-tech could almost be the franchise slogan…’GTA: Killing Hookers For Cash Since 2001.’
