Halo 3 “A-Hole Button”

MuteSometimes its the little things that can enhance your online gameplay. Bungie has news on their site about a feature in Halo 3 that lets you bring up a list of the gamer tags in your current game, and allows you to mute any you choose. They jokingly described it as the “A-Hole Button”, and that term may just stick.

There is always the problem of lack of communication because of this muting, but I will tell you that I have left games merely because of one or more players with diarrhea of the mouth. Sometimes it is even more annoying than that. I don’t think the feature will be overused because people enjoy the interaction, it is just the random idiot they can’t stand. Besides, it is an optional feature. Don’t use it if you don’t like it.

thank god. the usability in halo 2 is so backwards:

1: you can only mute a specific user from the end game menu, where you’ve already sat through 15 minutes of their crap.
2: you can only globally mute in game.

whereas, if i’m going to mute everyone, it’s going to be after the game’s over, and i need a break. if 1 person is talking over everyone else in the game, i want to be able to hear everyone else, not mute everyone.

I agree, it is definitely going to be a useful feature. Major props to Bungie for getting it right this time.
