IGN has learned from an inside source at Microsoft that the release date for Halo 3 will be in March 2007.
The article cites Microsofts desire to “innovate”, “challenge traditions”, and “change consumers priorities” as the main reason why the game is being released in the spring as opposed to the holiday season.
Personally, I believe that Microsoft has always planned Halo 3 as a buffer against the release of the PS3 and the Revolution – which are both due out in late 2006. Despite Bill Gates’ comments to the contrary, the bottom line is that releasing Halo 3 around the time of the PS3 / Revolution launch makes entirely too much sense. If the game made it’s debut during the holiday season of 2007, it would give Sony and Nintendo a year to eat into the XBox 360’s lead.
Still, it remains to be seen whether this release date proves to be correct.
