It’s “Game Over” for the N-Gage

N-Gage QD

Nokia has finally decided to stick a fork in the N-Gage gaming phone. Shocking – I know.

“The company says it plans to hold off on mobile gaming for a couple of years, concentrating instead on mobile music and video.”

“N-Gage is still being sold but it was not a success in the sense of developing a new category,” said Antti Vasara, Nokia’s vice president for corporate strategy. “We learned that people want to play games on all devices. As such we are integrating the gaming software into Series 60 phones.”

This is truly a dark day for gaming. I mean, what is left to make fun of? After all, the Nokia sucked in so many delightful ways. Who could forget the first gen N-Gage where users had to take out the battery to put in a new game? And of course there is the side talking problem where users had to turn the device sideways to use it as a phone. Absolutely priceless…

Rest assured that there is always another horrible product right around the corner. Which reminds me – what ever happened to the Infinium Phantom gaming console?

I almost bought one when it first came out. Glad I didn’t!
