Today BitTorrent threw its hat into the online movie business with companies like Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Wal-mart with the launch of its Entertainment Network downloading service.
The service is officially supported by producers like Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount and Warner Brothers. The content includes around 3000 new and classic movies along with around 1000 tv shows and 1000 video games.
Pricing:
- T.V. Shows $1.99 per episode
- New movies (rent only) $3.99
- Old movies (rent only) $2.99
Although BitTorrent was given the option of selling titles, they decided against it after they heard how much the studios planned on charging for the downloads. As it is, BitTorrent is only offering movies as rentals playable on Windows Media Player 11. All downloads contain Microsoft DRM.
The question is, will this new service prevent users from downloading the same content on another Torrent network free of charge? I highly doubt it.
