It appears that both Blizzard Entertainment and Konami are getting on the bandwagon by licensing out their most popular franchises to be made into feature films.
First up we have the hugely popular MMORPG World of Warcraft. It appears that Blizzard has announced a deal with Legendary Pictures to produce a movie based on the game. In fact, Blizzard has promised that they will work closely with Legendary Pictures to create a “Lord of the Rings type experience.”
Second we have a Metal Gear Solid movie which was confirmed by MGS creator Hideo Kojima himself:
“I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement,” said the revered designer. “False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood.”
There has not been any decisions made on directors, actors, release dates, etc. but I’m sure that we will be following innumerable rumors on the subject for months to come.
