In an attempt to avoid a failure like the movie adaptation of Prince of Persia, game publisher Ubisoft has decided to go indie for it’s Assassin’s Creed movie. The first step in the process was securing Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X-Men: First Class) to star in and co-produce through his DMC Film company.
“Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”
They hope to retain a bit more creative control over the process through working with Fassbender to develop the movie, but may turn to a studio for additional financing or distribution once the whole thing is complete.
