During a speech made at this week’s big gaming event in Leipzig, legendary game designer Peter Molyneux (Populous, Black and White, The Movies) warned designers that gamers may be too lazy to use the Wii controller.
Molyneux stressed that “the laziness inherent in games must be preserved” in order for the new controller to be successful.
“I’ve realised I’m an incredibly lazy person when I play games, and actually slouching back on the sofa, playing on my beer belly, is my most comfortable position. When I have to get up, it’s painful. I make noises and start grunting.”
He also noted that users might be concerned about looking foolish while flailing about with the Wii controller.
As much as I hate to admit it, Molyneux’s point is definitely valid. Hopefully, the new controller will usher in a new era of fit gamers – if not, we can always bank on the Wii’s standard controller.
