No PS3 Price Drop In U.S.

Only a few days ago Sony announced that Japan would receive a 20% price drop on the 20GB PS3 due to consumer complaints about the original 60,000 yen ($515) price tag.

Naturally, this lead to speculation that Sony would drop the price outside of the Asian market. Unfortunately this is not going to be the case.

Sony Computer president Kaz Hirai recently told GameSpot that “there are no plans right now to adjust the pricing for the US market.” Therefore, the U.S. price will stay at $499 for the 20GB and $599 for the 60GB version.

On the bright side, Hirai also noted that the HDMI port featured on the Japanese 20GB PS3 will be available worldwide. Whoop-de-doo.

While I agree that when taken as a whole, the PS3 is a value. However, I am as reluctant as ever to drop $600 on this thing when next gen gaming experiences can be had much cheaper elsewhere.
