Unbelievably enough, a South Korean man recently collapsed and died of exhaustion after playing online games at an internet cafe for ten days without proper rest. He was 38.
This news follows closely on the heels of another Korean man, 28, who died this past August after playing an online game for more than two days.
The most disturbing thing about all of this is the fact that these types of tragedies seem to be occuring more and more frequently. Needless to say, it certainly lends credibility to the theory that online gaming can result in a serious psychological addiction.
The reality of online game addiction seems to be especially acute in many Asian countries. The fact that the Chinese government recently imposed limits on the time citizens can spend playing the games is indiciative of how serious the problem has become.
