PS3 + 1080i = 480p

It is being widely reported that the PS3 has a major glitch for any consumer whose TV supports 1080i, but not 720p. Rather than upscaling from 720p to 1080i, it instead downscales it to 480p. I am sure that any user with a non-720p supporting set will be just a tad disappointed with this.

No word from Sony yet, and with all the other launch related issues popping up, this may not be their first priority. I would think they would start fixing whatever problem caused them to cut their initial shipments first, or maybe worry about it’s inability to play certain games from previous generations. We may be a bit hard on Sony, but after the high cost of the console and a ton of promises, I think we expected a bit more.
