Sources coming out of the Tokyo Game Show have indicated that many PS3 games might retail in the $76 – $84 range, as opposed to the current $50 – $60 standard.
Naturally, the rising costs of development were cited as the reason behind the price increase.
Keep in mind that these prices are only speculation at this point – but with the financial hit Sony will be taking on an already pricey console, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to recoup some of their losses on the software. On the other hand, with all of the bad PR Sony has endured lately, they will undoubtedly feel tremendous pressure to keep the prices within the norm. I guess we will have to wait and see if this rumor proves to be correct.
Update: A visit to the SonyStyle website shows upcoming PS3 games at a tolerable 59.99. It appears that the rumors about $70+ games were exactly that…rumors.
