The popular Gundam franchise has made it’s first foray into next-gen gaming. Unfortunately, fans are not going to be happy about it.
Reviews:
1UP: (2.4 out of 10) “Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire doesn’t just fail to be “next gen,” it is barely last gen. The game is an embarrassment to the Gundam name, and raises suspicions that it was rushed for the PS3 launch. Clearly, the series — and the fans — deserve better.”
IGN: (3.2 out of 10) “Mobile Suit Gundam:Crossfire simply fails to do the one thing it has to do, and that’s to entertain. It takes archaic forms of gameplay and tries to update them for the next-generation but disappoints in almost every respect. It has a number of decent ideas, but they don’t make an impression in the face of so many inadequacies. It does nothing to prove what the PS3 can do visually, but more importantly, it simply fails as an action game for the next-generation, or any other for that matter.”
Gamespot: (3.9 out of 10) “Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire feels like a mediocre budget PlayStation 2 game that was ported to the PlayStation 3 and slapped with a $60 price tag. Diehard Gundam fans with a lot of cash to burn might enjoy looking at the mobile suits, but other than that, this game has nothing going for it. Even if you could get past the horrid frame rate problems, lackluster presentation, and lack of online multiplayer, the gameplay in Crossfire is practically identical to the half-dozen or more Gundam games that appeared on the PlayStation 2. If you’re looking for a game to show off what your PlayStation 3 is capable of, Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire should be your last choice of all the launch titles.”

Bottom Line: I told you that you wouldn’t be happy. Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire smacks of a game hurried out the door for the PS3 launch. A definite pass.
