Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror

Does the PSP finally have it’s killer app?

Reviews:

IGN: (9.3 out of 10) “Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror packs an uncommon amount of detail, variety and overall quality. It blends intense action sequences with stealth in a way no portable game has before, and it does so with style to spare. It controls well, plays well and generally does everything right. Not perfect, mind you, but what’s actually wrong with Dark Mirror is barely worth mentioning. Add robust multiplayer options and you’ve got one excellent little package. Highly recommended.”

Gamespy: (5 out of 5) “Dark Mirror manages to do its job extraordinarily well, merging both style and substance to create a gameplay experience that’s unique. This game simply doesn’t belong on the PSP; it’s too early for a game of this caliber to show up on Sony’s little portable system — hell, it took nearly five years before God of War showed us what the PS2 can handle. Not only is Dark Mirror a damn fine game, it may very well be the best game on the system.”

1UP: (8.5 out of 10) Better than any PSP shooter yet, Dark Mirror functions without a second analog stick. The extraordinary grace of the remaining controls is enough to almost forget how nice dual-stick control would be. But the crux of the problem with this game is that, despite all the PSP’s technical advantages, shooters on the system are graceless in actually letting the player accurately shoot enemies.”

USA Today: (Highly Recommended) ” If you have a PSP and like the action-espionage genre of games, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror shows what the little system can do. At some points, you’ll even forget you’re playing on a pocket-sized PSP since the game delivers nearly a PS2 level experience.”

Bottom Line: Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is a must have for the PSP. All in all, it just might be the killer app that the PSP was looking for.
